Let people pick an existing record or create a new one

Turn any linked-record field into either a picker for existing records or a mini form that creates new ones as people fill.

Two ways to fill a linked field

A linked-record field can work in one of two modes. Choose the one that matches how people should answer.

  • Pick existing — the field shows a picker, and people choose from records that already exist.
  • Create new — the field becomes a small sub-form with its own child fields, so people enter a brand-new record right inside the form. In this mode the control relabels to Create Record.

Choosing a mode is a Pro feature.

What “Allow multiple” means in each mode

Allow multiple does different things depending on the mode, so it’s worth knowing which one you’ve turned on.

  • In Pick existing, Allow multiple lets a person select more than one existing record.
  • In Create new, Allow multiple makes the sub-form repeatable, so a person can add several new records as line-items.
